Today a quick nod to a series of books on Italian foodstuffs. Starting in the mid 1990s Nardini published in Italian several slim 120 pages volumes on olive oil, pepper and chilli, coffee, chocolate, truffles and other objects of desire. The list goes on and on through to the present and also includes balsamic vinegar, citrus fruits, Italian salami, milk and, why not, martini. The closest equivalent in the English-speaking world is the Edible Series by Reaktion. The Nardini volumes are, it is fair to say, less historical and also have less luscious illustrations than Reaktion’s books and this being Italy most are almost impossible to get hold of save through the publisher.  Still, well worth a look.
